Join CDOCH “On the Hill”
From February 25 - 26th , plan to join CPIC Inc. and its partners in
a full day of activities on Capitol Hill. All are invited and encouraged
to attend the Caribbean Issues Briefing to the Caribbean Diplomatic Corp
& members of Congress.
Never been to Capitol Hill before? This is a good time to visit. After
two days of attending “CDOCH Conference” you will be knowledgeable
to meet and mingle with people who serve your interest in the Nation’s
Capitol! To complement the Hill Day activities, there will be a group
photo session in front of our Nation’s capitol.
Social Action Luncheon
Theme “Accepting the Challenges & Securing Our Future”
takes advantage of this opportunity, to network with our up and coming
leaders and listen to our dynamic guest speaker.
Attendees of the Conference can expect to hear from a range of outstanding speakers discussing key issues impacting Caribbean-American. Invited speakers typically include key policymakers and political leaders from the U.S. Senate, U.S. House of Representatives, and Administration and outside of the U.S. government.
Attendees will also hear policy briefings from members of the ASA lobbying staff and physician leadership. These briefings will prepare attendees for the “Hill Day” portion of the Conference during which attendees conduct lobbying visits with their individual Member of Congress and Senators on key issues impacting anesthesiology.
Conference Seminars
Title: Educational Strategies
Industry expert and members will discuss issues such as Brain Gain vs.
Brain Drain, high school drop out rates and access and enrollment in post
secondary schools. Lack of involvement in youth exchange programs, and
disparities experienced by students of Caribbean descent.
Title: Advocacy Training
Attendees will learn how to cultivate relationships at Local, County and
regional levels. Participant will have an increased understanding of how
the legislative process works, how grass roots and community organizations
are developed, how these organizations functions and the significant impact
of their contributions.
Title: Social Challenges and Realties
This session will focus on domestic violence, alcoholism, drug use, mental
health and it affects within the Caribbean-American communities. The secession
will address the need to introduce and integrate culturally tailored counseling,
and prevention programs to the Caribbean communities that more accessible
to Caribbean American families in addition, to meeting the need of this
immigrant population.
Title: Caribbean Primary Challenges
This forum seeks to raise awareness and solution for the HIV/AIDS pandemic
within the Caribbean Diaspora. The HIV/AIDS epidemic is local and universal
in nature it can only resolved through the mobilization of our communities.
Additional topics include Ryan White Funding, Center for Disease Control
(CDC) New HIV Prevention Strategy, and the HIV/AIDS global initiatives.
Title: Funding within the agencies
Where is the funding for CBO’s for people of color? What opportunities are available? How competitive is the process.
